Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) is an advanced form of Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS). EGPWS uses aircraft inputs, including:
- position - attitude - air speed - glidescope - terrain, obstacles and airport databases, and - proprietary alerting algorithms
to predict a potential conflict between the aircraft's flight path and terrain or an obstacle, such as a transmission tower.
The result is a visual and audio caution or warning alert. When coupled with display, the surrounding terrain can be viewed relative to the aircraft position, providing strategic terrain information up to 30 minutes before a potential terrain conflict.
